Look up vocabulary

Look up a word while reading and optionally save it as a vocabulary card.

Before you start

Steps

  1. Right-click (or use your device’s equivalent context action) on a word in the source text. In English Primary Language mode, you can also hover a highlighted original-language word.
  2. Wait for the lookup tooltip to show a definition or gloss.
  3. Click Save if you want the word in your review library.

Word lookup tooltip with Save

What happens

  • Lookup does not add a card until you click Save.
  • The tooltip lists the dictionary form under Lemma and its grammatical role in this sentence under Used here as — for an inflected word, the heading shows the form you read with the lemma beneath it.
  • If the word is already in your library for this text, the tooltip may show it as already saved (Saved / already in library).
  • Saving creates a card you can review in Play.

Troubleshooting

  • “Could not look up this word”: try again, or pick a different token (punctuation-only selections are not lookupable).
  • No Save control: wait for the lookup to finish loading.
